It's 2019. Let's go!
1. I missed blogging the last three weeks of December. Oops! Time just got away from me. We had a very busy month. We volunteered making and serving dinner at the Ronald McDonald house room at Children's Mercy Hospital. We adopted a solider and wrote him letters and sent him a care package. We made toys for Wayside Waifs and blankets for Project Linus. We made about a bazillion cookies and delivered them to our neighbors. But most of all? We spent a lot of time together as a family. And it was great! (Well, mostly great, let's keep it real here.)
2. We went to church on Christmas Eve and came home to a special dinner in our dining room, followed by watching A Christmas Story. Tradition at its finest.
2. Over break we managed to go ice skating not once, but twice. It was so fun!
3. I took the girls down to Union Station and Crown Center for a day last week. We had a blast! They competed in a photo scavenger hunt that I set up. Each big girl was on a team with one of the little girls. I came up with 20 clues and it took them both about an hour to find all the clues. I highly recommend something like this if you have big kids. Seriously, they all enjoyed doing it! And, it was good for them to develop a sense of independence, to learn how to read a map and ask for directions. All life skills!
We celebrated afterwards by eating lunch at Harvey's in Union Station and going ice skating (one of the two times we went over break).
The hubby was having a Scrooge moment and decided to skip. His loss!
4. Today we visited Family Leisure and ended up buying a pool table. We are all so psyched! We've been looking to purchase a used pool table via Facebook Marketplace or Craig's List but we've had a couple issues. First, we need a 7' foot table; not the regulation 8' size. They are hard to find. Second, we have not had any luck finding someone to move and set up a pool table. So, we decided to bite the bullet and purchase a brand new table. This way they will set it up for us and we don't have to lift a finger. Perfect!
We are purchasing the table on the left but in the finish of the table on the right. We selected burgundy felt because we just liked the look. It should be here in about 3 weeks or so.
5. I signed up to do 30 days of yoga with Adriene this month. Honestly, I'm not really even sure what I want to get out of it? I guess it just sounded like something good to do to kick off the year. And maybe I like the challenge of it? So far I have done the first 5 days. The first 3 days were the hardest because they were so slow and long. But the last two days have been much better. She has started moving faster and the sessions are only 22 - 28 minutes. Much easier to squeeze into my schedule.
I did decide on one New Year's resolution this year - No more impulse purchases. You know what I'm talking about - you're in the middle of Target and that sweatshirt is so cute and it's only $17 so you should totally buy it, right? Well, no more. I'm trying to be more intentional. So, I decided I have to make a list before I walk into a store and I can't stray from the list. Yesterday we went to Ikea and only walked out with the four pillow inserts I had on my list. I was so proud of myself! And I did not stray from my Target list yesterday, either. That's probably a first for me:) I do have a list in my phone of things I am allowed to buy should the opportunity arise. And I decided if I go shopping with friends, I can set a dollar amount if I am not shopping for anything in particular but I cannot exceed that dollar amount. I think this will be a good challenge for me. Wish me luck!
6. I spent several hours in the kitchen today doing meal prep for the week. It's time to get back on a schedule since the kids go back to school tomorrow. Here's what's on the list:
Saturday: lasagna (I froze half for our ski trip), Caesar salad, and French bread
Sunday: Italian Pork roast, mashed potatoes, and roasted broccoli and brussels sprouts
Monday: Thai Shrimp Soup, (mac-n-cheese for the Littles), roasted green beans
Tuesday: Salmon tacos with cauliflower rice, roasted asparagus
Wednesday: Homemade vegetable potstickers with Toasted Sesame Honey Soy Sauce, cashew chicken with broccoli
Thursday: Greek Lamb Meatballs with Avocado Goddess Sauce with orzo (cauliflower rice) and sliced cucumbers
I also made a double batch of cauliflower soup and we'll throw leftover pork roast in it. Hopefully that, along with other leftovers, will get the hubby and I through our lunches for the week!
All right, that's all I've got for tonight. Have a terrific week!
