So I'm blogging early today b/c Chiefs! It's been a fun season to follow along. Not that I ever have the patience to sit still for four hours, I have seen some of the games and they've been really good. So I'm really excited for tonight.
1. Early last week they said we were going to get another big snow storm. We were all so excited for the snow. And then? Womp womp. Nothing. Maybe a dusting. It was so disappointing!
2. We had the first orchestra concert for #4 last week and it was so adorable. The kids actually played with their bows instead of just plucking and I recognized the songs. In 4th grade, that's winning all the way. And #4 was simply adorable!
She was a bit nervous but made it through just fine. Man, I love that kid!
3. All my life I have hated puzzles. My mom and sister would do them but me? Nope. No way. And then...I'm not sure what happened? But I've been wanting to do a puzzle since the holidays. So I stopped on my way home from work Friday night and picked up a 500 piece puzzle. I thought my family would laugh at me but they were into it; most especially the hubby. Who knew?! He LOVES doing puzzles and is way better at it than me. So we spent our Friday night putting this bad boy together:
To be fair, we didn't finish until yesterday but still, I was really impressed.
So yesterday I asked him to pick up a 1,000 piece puzzle. And what did he come home with? 1,500 pieces! Whoa! So we spent last night working on this one:
I'm not sure when we became so lame? I mean puzzles, beer, and wine was not my idea of a good time 10 years ago. And now? I'm loving it!
You know what really cracks me up? Our different styles. He is very methodical and focused. He put together one section for hours last night and again this morning. Me? I work on a section until I get frustrated and then I move on to something else. And then something else. I group all the like-colored pieces together and just start plugging and playing. He will walk around the table looking for one specific piece. All in all, we probably get the same amount of pieces put together but while I worked on five different sections, he finished the whole parking lot section. I guess that's why we work as a couple? We're ying and yang and compliment each other's style. Anyway, it cracked me up to see it so obvious!
4. For Christmas, #4 got a Raddish subscription since she loves to cook and bake. It's really a cute idea. Once a month she receives a package in the mail, addressed to her. Inside is one cooking item (this month it was a scraper - a really nice one!) and 3 recipes guides which are glossy pages showing step-by-step instructions on how to make something. So last night she was in charge of dinner. The theme this month was French food and she made everything! (Even though she didn't eat the salad or the fancy grilled cheese - go figure) Plus, she printed out menus for each of us. Her menu was a Nicoise salad, Croque Monsieur Sandwiches, and Chocolate-Dipped Creme Puffs for dessert. It was all delicious!
That sandwich? The best damn grilled cheese I've ever had in my life! It was made with a béchamel sauce and gruyere cheese. To die for! Let me know if you want the recipe.
5. So #1 received her information from the University of Utah. She ended up getting a really awesome scholarship. And, we found out Utah has made it really easy to get in-state tuition after a year. All that to say, it is definitely her #2 pick behind Hawaii. So I think it will really boil down to what Hawaii can do for her. And she won't find out until mid-March. That means we have about two more months to go before we will know where she is going to college. (She and the hubby may end up taking a really quick to Salt Lake to check out the campus but I really have no doubt she will love it.) It's getting really exciting! And real! It's so strange to think this time next year she won't be around. Yikes.
6. I'm still doing my 30 days of yoga. I ended up totally spacing it off on Friday night (due to puzzles!) but I did my practice yesterday and then today I did two days so I'm all caught up. I'm not sure what I'm getting out of it, but I've come this far and I'm not going to quit!
Phew! That's all I've got for today. I need to hop in the shower and get my appetizers going for tonight's game. See you next week!
