Hello there! I hope you were as lucky as we were with the weather this weekend. It was fabulous!
1. We had a birthday in our house this week. #1 turned 14 years old! Crazy, right? She requested Kung Pao Chicken Lettuce Wraps for her birthday dinner. So good.
I will admit I struggled with a good present. In the end I went the easy route - clothes. I checked out J. Crew but wasn't excited about anything in there. It was all sort of boring. So I ended up in American Eagle with a bunch of cute things! Basically, I just gave her an outfit with pieces to mix and match. I also bought her a pair of sweat pants when I went shopping in Vail a couple weekends ago. All were a hit, thank goodness!
She is such a great kid for her dad and I to learn the ropes of parenthood. Since she is the oldest and the first at everything, she is sort-of our guinea pig. And she takes it all with a grain of salt. At fourteen Cate is:
- Tall. She's already 5' 8.5" with a size 11 foot!
- Graceful. Even in the pool.
- Patient. With her sisters and with me when I get her to events at the last minute.
- Smart. I rarely have to help with her school work except for when I play "editor"
- Confident. If she is having a hard time with math she will go to the teacher for help. (Because I can't remember that stuff!)
- Caring. As evidenced by the way she treats her friends.
I could go on and on, but that would get old. And it would look like I'm bragging. (And maybe I am just a bit.) But pretty much she's the best.
So wish her luck this week when I take her to the DMV to take the test to get her Learner's Permit. Yikes!
2. The week started off so cold and gross and by yesterday it was just gorgeous! We had 60+ degree days yesterday and today. It was AWESOME! We all spent time outside enjoying it in various ways. The little girls played and played with friends, #1 went shopping at Town Center, #2 and her friend played outside in a treehouse for hours, the hubby did yard work AND washed the cars (inside and out), and I ran and did a few projects. Simply perfect.
3. Speaking of running, Christi and I managed to get 10 miles done this morning. We ran two miles, participated in a 10k, and cooled off with two more miles. It started off a bit chilly but was perfect by the time we were done!
Plus, it was fun to run down in the West Bottoms. There were really different sights and sounds than we are used to out in Suburbia!
4. Soccer really ramped up for #2 this weekend - she had three games. She played yesterday morning at 7:45 (inside), outside last night at 9:00pm, and outside again this afternoon. That's a lot of soccer! Plus, their team moved up to play 11 v 11 this season rather than just 8 v 8. They are still figuring out what it will take to play on the full size field. Even with three more girls on the field, it's a LOT of ground to cover. They won two games and lost one. It really was a fun weekend of soccer.
5. I took advantage of the nice weather and worked on my clawfoot tub this afternoon. It now looks like this:
Trust me when I tell you that is a major improvement! Now I just need to stripe the paint and paint it black. I'm getting excited now.
Meanwhile, the hubby scraped the ceilings in the bathroom. Once he patches and sands it, I'll paint it. I want to paint the walls and ceiling before we start on the floors. It will just be so much easier that way!
6. I spent yesterday afternoon in the kitchen for a few hours. I made taco meat, spaghetti sauce, and lazagna for our spring break trip next week. We are getting so excited for our week in Breckenridge at our new condo! The girls are practically giddy. (Not that I blame them.)
I also dug through all our winter clothes and washed whatever was dirty. It's all laid out so I don't forget something. We'll pack clothes later this week.
All that to say, I'm not sure I'll be here next Sunday. We'll see.
Have a great week! I hope you will have great weather to enjoy like we will:)
