OK. So gutting my master bathroom isn't exactly thrifty in the conventional sense. But considering we'd like to do 90%+ of the work ourselves, I consider that thrifty. Got it? I am trying to take my time and actually research my choices which is not my usual MO. But when spending so much money all in one room - I am definitely trying to work on patience.
First up. The befores. I don't think I've ever showed my bathroom to you all. In fact, only my relatives and closest friends have seen it because it's BAD. Like seriously BAD.
That's enough. You get the idea. I am not going to list everything wrong because that would pretty much be everything. Nothing is staying. Nothing is sacred.
Here is the layout as it stands now:
That awkward corner between the two sinks is killer! So what is changing? Not a ton in terms of layout. In order to keep costs down we need to leave the plumbing pretty much where it is today; with one exception. We are going to move my sink over next to the hubby's sink and make a double vanity. (To try to deal with the awkward corner.) You can see here:
What else? Let's see...where should I begin?!
We'll be replacing the double-wide bathtub with a clawfoot tub. Our current bathtub is ridiculous. I like to use it in the winter but it completely empties the hot water heater! What's up with that? It's just dumb. I love the idea of refinishing a claw foot tub. And lucky for me they are all over Craig and his List! And after months (and months and months) of working on the hubby, he is now onboard. Phew! Because I was totally doing it anyway!
The shower is getting completely redone. In the process we'll pull it out so it's flush with the wall and add a glass door rather than the sliders we have today. I'd love a walk-in shower but I'm just not sure how to make it work in our awkward layout without moving all the plumbing!
We're going to install radiant floor heat and I can't wait! Our bathroom has 10 foot ceilings and the heat vent is IN THE CEILING. So stupid! Needless to say, it's really cold in the winter. Like really cold. I think the radiant floor heating will be my favorite part!
I made up my first ever mood board to show you my plans:
So, what do you think? I'm still iffy on the lighting - not sure if I'll go with the brass or something like polished chrome. I know I will mix metals, though. I'm in love with our tile choices and vanity. (Just need to see it in person to be sure.) And the china cabinet? I just love that surprise element in the bathroom. Plus, it'll give me great storage and something to "style", too. Exciting!
I'm not sure when we'll actually start, and I know it will take us MONTHS to complete, but I'm going to love it.
If you have any ideas, let me know. It's not too late to change anything except the floor tile! (The carrara marble looking tile.) What do you think?
