I'm trying to get back into my routine of blogging on Sunday night. But I have to say, it's kind of hard to sit down and write at the end of a weekend!
1. Monday involved a lot of bike riding. The girls were home without a nanny. That did NOT stop them, though. First, 3 out of the 4 rode their bikes to the library. (#3 was at a friend's house.) Then, later, when the middles were both gone, #1 and #4 went for a ride. And the best part? #1 rode my bike with #4 on the tandem both times! Isn't that so precious? I wish I had a picture of that. Alas, I don't. But, #1 took a selfie with #4 and sent it to me. Aren't they cute?
Where did they go, you ask? Well, #1 has been reading Teen Vogue and Seventeen magazines now. (Crazy that I remember reading Seventeen!) Anyway, she found a face regime that she wanted to try. So I sent her to Target with my Red Card and she had a list of things to buy. Then, they stopped at Sonic and Walgreen's on their way home. It was so awesome that my "Bookends" were able to spend time together like that because it doesn't happen very often! #1 is truly the best big sister. Ever.
2. The girls started school this week. Thursday, to be exact. I was dreading it because I LOVE summer. But, it was fine. And admittedly, it was nice working in a quiet house again. To celebrate and toast the new school year, we went out to dinner at Bravo on Wednesday night. It was such a treat to get to eat in a "nice" restaurant!
The girls all ordered Shirley Temples for drinks. I'm sure that cost the same as an entire meal at Taco Bell, but whatever. It was totally worth it. (And I really do love Taco Bell. I know. I know. Gross. But YUMMY!)
3. Of course I already posted these pictures to Facebook but I am going to show them again to make sure I have covered all my bases!
Here are #1 and #2 - off to middle school, grades 8th and 6th:
Yes, that really is their height difference. #1 is officially taller than me now. And I am a hair over 5'7"!
The little girls are in 2nd and Kindergarten this year:
#3 is great. She is used to school and has a lot of friends and likes her teacher. #4 is a different story completely.
#4 has pretty much refused to talk about school all summer. As far as she was concerned, she wasn't going. Well, she went. She didn't cry which shocked me a little. And she came home and proclaimed "Kindergarten was better than preschool!" However. That night the hubby and I had to attend the middle school back-to-school night. When we got home we were informed #4 cried and said she really didn't like school and just said that because she knew it was what we wanted to hear. Yeah, just stab me in the heart, why don't you?
She went to school Friday buoyed by the fact she only had to go one day. Tonight she told me she doesn't want to go to school because it's so "Bowing" and she really does not like "having to sit by a BOY, mom!" Let me tell you, this kid is going to be touch. I will be gray by the time she graduates from high school. Or else bald.
4. I don't remember if I posted pictures of our killer cat with her "Lion" haircut?
She was getting so matted that I couldn't cut them out or brush them out. I felt awful having to resort to getting her shaved but she doesn't seem to mind it one bit! In fact, I think she may like it. She is still a stone cold killer so life is good.
5. My sister-in-law flew in from Dallas this weekend and met her parents. They all stayed with us Friday night and tonight. But yesterday afternoon my SIL and MIL took the girls to Great Wolf Lodge for a night. Aside from a bought of car sickness for #1, I think they had a great time! And it's so awesome for my girls to get to spend some time with their Aunt Erin who they worship!
Besides swimming at GWL they went out for dinner last night and did a little retail therapy. I think it was a success for everyone!
Meanwhile, the hubby and I did a little shopping. For carpet. Talk about mind-numbing. It is not fun to shop for carpet. We found out most places end up charging similar prices for similar carpet but they just go about it differently! We need carpet for all of our upstairs bedrooms - about 750 square feet. I think I'm going to go with gray since we all have cool colors in our bedrooms. I'm not sure what we're going to end up with, though. I'm leaning towards something a little nicer (ie softer) for the master bedroom and something a little less pricey for the girls. Is that wrong? Or selfish? I don't know. But I tell you what, it's a hefty price tag no matter what we do! I will fill you all in on the decision once we pull the trigger!
6. We've decided it's time. It's time to address the last room of the house that has yet to be touched. (Well, majorly touched.) Our master bathroom. It's so gross. We're basically going to gut it and start from scratch. New tile floor, claw foot bath tub, new shower everything, new toilet, new vanities, mirrors, lights. You name it!
So, while we priced carpet we also checked out tile. We want a floor tile that looks like marble but does not have the required maintenance of marble. After checking out several stores, we ended up at The Tile Shop. I didn't think they'd have anything. But guess what? I was totally wrong! We ended up with ceramic or porcelain (I can't remember which) that is a dead ringer for marble. We ended up getting a smokin' deal because someone had ordered it and then decided they didn't want it.
I'll write more about it all later and detail my plans for you in a separate post. But suffice it to say I'm getting excited! I can't wait for a beautiful, spa-like bathroom.
And with that, I'm outta here. Have a great week!
