I am pissed. This stupid site (typepad) just ate my post and now I have to start over. Ugh! Note to self: Save after every number!
1. I had a short week of work this past week. My friend, Christi, and I took a vacation day on Friday and went shopping. All day. We had a blast! We started off out in Olathe at the Lone Elm Antique Mall right when they opened - 10am. We spent over two hours there walking up and down every aisle. We pulled some things out right away and set them on the counter and other things we just catalogued in our minds for later. Then, after we had walked the whole place, we went back and picked out a few more items. When we were done, the counter looked like this:
Did we stop there? Of course not! After Olathe we headed down to First Fridays in the West Bottoms. We were both surprised by how many shops there were down there. Last time there were not even half that many shops. We had a BLAST!
We stopped and bought lunch off one of the trucks parked down there. And it was seriously awesome.
All told we shopped for 7 hours - 10am to 5pm. And we could have kept going but family obligations called. Plus, it was probably good we stopped. Because we found lots of goodies! This everything I brought home minus two Christmas presents which are hiding. So good, right?!
Lest you think I forgot about Christi, she had just as much luck if not more! She found this awesome Campaign serving piece of furniture for her dining room. I'm not kidding when I tell you she has been looking for something to fit her small wall space for over two years! And the piece she found made us both giddy! So much fun. We're definitely doing this again next spring. We just have to save up for it again:)
2. This past week I made pork taquitos with chipotle ranch dipping sauce. So good! Five out of six of us loved them and #4 doesn't count because she doesn't like anything other than chicken nuggets, spaghetti, and tacos right now. You need to try these!
I'm not going to lie - they are not fast. There's quite a few steps but the best part is you can freeze them and then just pop them into the oven when you're ready to eat them. 15 minutes later dinner's ready! And they are baked, not fried, so they're not so bad for you. Of course I found the recipe at iowagirleats.com.
3. Yesterday the hubby and I hung 7 more kitchen cabinet doors. They are basically complete except for touch-ups and we need to hang the door that covers the cubbies over the desk. I promise I'll have some next week. Plus, we got our new yellow bar stools that I am in love with - so fun! Sadly, I totally forgot to take pictures.
I still need to paint the walls (a super light gray), paint the trim due to the new floors, and make some Roman shades and curtains. But that's all easy compared to painting the cabinets. Plus, I'm in no hurry! I am just thrilled that hte hard part is basically finished. Phew.
4. Last night while my parents stopped over to carve pumpkins with my niece and nephew in tow, the hubby and I went on a bike ride bar crawl with some neighborhood friends. So. Much. Fun. I wish I could say we look bad-ass, but we look more like preppy Huskers. Oh well...
We hit six bars in total. We started at 3pm and I got home before 10pm. (Not sure what time the hubby got home - he had a little more wind in his sails than I did.) And don't yell at me - we rode on the sidewalks - especially when it was dark out. This is what it looked like when we parked our bikes - like a gang, yo!
Here were all were as it was getting a little chilly out:
I definitely think we're going to have to do this again. And next year we think we should all dress up, too. (Can you spot the guy in the lederhosen?!) It was such a fun group of people and a great way to spend the afternoon/evening.
5. Friday night my family headed over to my sister's house for dinner (my parents were in town). After dinner we (the kids and I) decorated her house for Halloween. When we were done it looked like Halloween blew up in there! But I know the kids had fun and I think my niece and nephew enjoyed waking up Saturday morning and seeing all the Halloween decorations - so that was really cute! And I get into decorating way more than my sister. After all, she works full time and is also in school to be a PA specializing in cardiac electro-physiology something-or-other. So yeah, she's a little busy to put decorating on her list of priorities. (Thank God I'm not in school - yuck. The thought of writing a paper practically gives me hives!)
We also celebrated my dad's birthday which is actually today. Happy birthday, Old Man! I love you:) Here are all the grandkids helping him blow out his candles:
That cake was a huge hit with everybody. Yum. So all in all Friday was a fantastic day!
6. I had family pictures today that were a little chilly but still great! I seriously have not culled through these photos - I just choose the very first picture we took. So I think there's going to be a ton to choose from which is a great dilemma to have as a photographer.
And with that - I'm outta here. Have a great week, everyone!
