So I took a break. I thought that might happen.
The hubs and I took our annual trip to Lake Okoboji in northwestern Iowa last weekend. We had too much fun! I think I gained about 50 pounds. Totally worth it, though. What have we been up to the last two weeks? Read on...
1. Bike rides. Numerous bike rides. I think I like these just as much as the kids! We've been exceedingly lucky with the weather this summer and it's been nice enough to ride our bikes. I feel like the last two sumers were so hot we didn't want to be outside unless we were IN the pool!
2. The hubby and I celebrated (or didn't really) our 16th anniversary! SIXTEEN. That's one-six, people! We are so old. We are not the super sentimental lovey-dovey anniversary type so I really didn't mind not making a big deal out of it. We thought we might celebrate if the kids head up to Omaha for a weekend, but we're not sure that will happen?? No matter. I still love him after all these years and he still makes me laugh. And vice versa. We're all good!
The kids made us cards and set the dinner table using placemats. That is big time in our house:
3. Okoboji. I put together a Top 6 list in 2011 and a recap last year. So this year I'll just show you random pictures I snapped. Some with my big girl camera but most with my phone.
Beer pong. We didn't have a table so we improvised. And I have to say, I am a naturally gifted beer pong player. I seriously rocked it!

Lastly, the Regal Beagle - a total hole-in-the-wall bar that used to be fun:
4. We've been spending a lot of time at the pool lately. It happened later this year due to travel and weather but we've been thoroughly enjoying it. I think #4 has loved it the most of any of us. The kid is seriously a fish!
5. My friend, Lori, joined us for her last run last Thursday morning. We've been running together for the last year through the heat, humidity, rain, single-digit-temps - in other words - the Midwest. We're all sad to see her go but hopeful she and her family will make it back to us in a few years.
Here's our picture. And remember, this was at 6:30am so NO JUDGING!. Left to right: Carmen, Lori, Sarah, me:
6. #3 got her ears pierced. She didn't shed a single tear!
7. #4 got her hair cut. When we left for Okoboji she had long hair. When we came back it was short. And so darn ADORABLE!
Tangent: The littles have been wanting to have family movie night lately. Their movies of choice? Harry Potter. #4 is deciding whether or not magic is real. Tonight we told her she couldn't go to Hogwarts School of Witch and Wizardry if she couldn't sit quietly. It worked! For about 30 seconds.
8. The big girls are down in Bella Vista with my parents this week. They're enrolled in golf camp and we're crossing our fingers they like it!
9. The big girls and I ran the Color Storm 5k down at Kemper Arena yesterday. We ran it with my friend, Christi, and her two kids. It ended up being pretty fun!

My white shirt still has purple on it after I washed it. Oh well...
10. Book Update: You know how I'm reading Anna Karenina? Well, I took a break to read something really easy during our trip to Okoboji. I read Bossypants by Tina Fey. I know it's old but it was at Target and I was on my way out of town. It was great. Light, easy reading and it was funny. I'd totally recommend it. But now it's back to Anna. She's pregnant and I need to see what happens..
And there you have it! Four extra for you on this Sunday evening. Have a great week!
