It's Thursday. That means it's time to get thrifty!
I will admit I have been waiting to showcase my fun, red, front door. I bought the most awesome planter at Home Goods and I was going to fill it with pretty flowers. Then the heat wave struck. It was 110 degrees out for about a solid month and my urge to garden fell by the wayside. So now I am holding out to plant some mums. I love mums and they are a beautiful fall flower.
Therefore, I couldn't wait any longer to post these pictures. Truly, this project was thrifty. I bought a quart of outdoor (primer included) Behr paint in Cherry Cobbler. I used the ENTIRE can since I was painting red over a white door. And I'll admit, when I first put it on, I FREAKED OUT! It was HOT PINK. No joke. Thankfully the guy at Home Depot warned me about that and told me to wait a full 12 hours (or was it 24?) before applying the second (or third, or fourth, or fifth) coat.
Here is the before shot.
Here is an after:
I realize the storm door detracts from the paint job, but we haven't figured out what we're going to yet. I love being able to leave the front door open. It makes the house feel so much more light and airy. But the black has got to go! So I'll either paint the storm door or we'll replace it completely. Only time will tell.
And because who doesn't love a good before shot? Here is one more...
Actually, we've pretty much redone the entire front of the house! Here is it now:
To paint the door, I used a 2 inch brush and a foam roller. That was it!
Here are a few more after shots:
And last one...
And there you have it. I think this was about a $15 update (not including the siding, the new roof, the new window, the new house numbers...you get the idea)! So what do you think? Has anyone else painted their front door?
wow! you did a super job! Looks great, i too am redoing my lnviig room in shabby chic, furniture, fabrics, just about everything and now I have a ton to sell on ebay or craigslist. The silk dupioni drapes that were so expensive, got to sell the big, beautiful silk wing back chair has to go, the "book" table that I paid over $700 for has to go,,, oh my God, just give me the knowledge and strength to do it... lol

I never see you and I have to say I love your red front door! Looks terrific. Hopefully you have noticed a decline in silver fish with the composite roof. Your house looks lovely!
